Juan Martin de Veramendi (December 17, 1778–1833) was the governor of the Mexican
state of Coahuila y Tejas
from 1832 until 1833.
Veramendi was born on December 17, 1778 in San Fernando de Béxar
, known as Bexar, to Fernando Veramendi and Maria Josefa Granados. He married Josefa Navarro, and together they had seven children, including Ursula, who married Texas revolutionary James Bowie.
Vermandi served as the collector of foreign revenue in Bexar in 1822 and 1823, leaving office when he was elected alternate deputy of the Texas Provincial Depuration to the Mexican National Constitutional Congress
. In 1824 and 1825, he served as the first alcade of Bexar, and was elected vice-governor of the Coahuila y Tejas province on [September 6, 1830. As vice-governor, Veramendi was expected to live in the provincial capital, Saltillo
.
When the governor of the province, José María Letona, died in 1832 Veramendi assumed the office. He died of cholera
in the summer of 1832 while at his summer home in Monclova
.
