Mr. Khan married to Mrs. Ayesha Rahman a Grand Daughter of a very respectable and successful entrepreneur of the State who had a business spread through the state of Karnataka.
His social life started when he was elected as the Member of the Central Muslim Association and later was elected as the President of the prestigious Muslim Association of the State, CMA, which was very actively involved in the field of education and community welfare.

Born on April 5, 1939 at Krishnarajpet, district Mandya (Karnataka), Deputy Chairman Rajya Sabha (Upper House) of the Parliament of India, Shri K. Rahman Khan has come a long way as a suave, affable and a gentle political leader in right chord with the poor, indigent and the proletariat. He is broadly known as a friend of the people because of his well-meaning people-friendly approach.
Having graduated in commerce and a Fellow Chartered Accountant, Shri Rahman Khan established his credential as accountancy professional before his zeal for serving people at large propelled him to join politics. He was elected as a member of Karnataka Legislative Council in 1978 and rose to become its Chairman in 1982-84 and Chairman Karnataka State Minorities Commission (Cabinet rank) in 1993-94. His recommendations as Chairman, Karnataka Minorities Commission has resulted in reservation for minorities in the State Government services and educational institutions.
Since Shri Rahman was elected Member Legislative Council (Karnataka) in 1978, his political career graph has spanned almost all aspects of governance and paradigms of development in the State Government of Karnataka and at the apex in the Central Government as postulated in the Constitution of India and the rule of law based democratic system of governance in the country. He has been actively connected with most of the committees of State Legislature of Karnataka and Parliament of India. During the more than three decades long experiences in politics, he has come to be known as a law maker of repute both at the state and the national level and friend of the people in need. He is widely known to be enjoying high public goodwill and trust as a political leader representing great secular ethos of India and a mainstream minority leader.
He has been an active participant in the conferences convened by CPA and Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU), which is a body of legislatures of 140 countries, widely known as a forum of interaction with parliamentarians and world leaders for exchange of mutual thoughts and experiences. His Active participation at International fora has earned him a prominent place amongst the leaders of International Community.
Shri Rahman has been deeply connected with a wide spectrum of social, cultural, literary, educational, artistic, scientific and other social interests. He has been involved with several trusts and foundations for promoting education and uplift of the weaker sections of society including minorities in Southern India and has come to be known as a popular philanthropist. His mantra is to accord top most priority to education for all round development of the people.
As Chairman Al-Ameen Education Society, Bangalore, which runs several technical and other educational institutions of repute, and as Chairman Central Muslim Association of Karnataka, Shri Rahman Khan's onerous efforts inspired community at large to promote education for themselves on similar pattern. Besides, as Chairman Joint Parliamentary Committee on Wakfs, his pioneering role in recommending revamp of the Wakf Act for eviction of encroachment and mobilizing incomes from Wakf properties for the over all welfare of the community and recommendations to the Prime Minister on Haj reforms to free Haj pilgrims from any exploitation are his other noteworthy contributions.
As a political leader he is an ardent champion of all-round inclusive development and growth of the people of India, a secularist par excellence and a proponent of peaceful co-existence of our people and progress of the nation.
Among the several Awards that he has been honored with include the one for excellence in promotion of cooperatives in Karnataka and Tipu Sulttan Award for promotion of education.

Brief Life History
Born to Khasim Khan an school master turned businessman and Khairunnisa (known for her healing treatment to the villagers) at Krishnarajpet, Mandya District of Karnataka. Mr. Khan did his Pre-schooling at a nearby Village, where he use to walk a distance of over 5 km daily. Later he joined Banmaya's College at Mysore, where he used to stay at the Muslim Hostel. After becoming a Commerce Graduate from Mysore University, he turned towards Bangalore and there to Chennai where he took his C.A.
