King's Mill Hospital is the primary site of Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Providing healthcare services to around 300,000 people, it is situated in Sutton-in-Ashfield and serves Mansfield, Ashfield and the surrounding Areas.
King's Mill Centre joined with Newark General Hospital and Ashfield and Mansfield District Community Hospitals in 2001 to form Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust, which in February 2007 became Sherwood Forest NHS Foundation Trust following its successful application to Monitor, the governing body.
Maternity Services, including Neonatal and the Sherwood Birthing Unit, will be moving out of their accommodation in the Dukeries Centre to the third tower as Women's & Children's Services in January 2011. The Dukeries Centre, despite dating back from the 1970s, will not be demolished as it was a gift donated to the hospital. There is a clause in the contract stating that it cannot be demolished. It is unclear what this building will contain after its current occupants move out, however it has been suggested that the exterior will be modernised to look identical to the other, newer buildings.
On 14 January 1975, the Dukeries Centre was opened by the Duchess of Devonshire. This is separate from the rest of the hospital and currently contains Maternity Services. This is due to close in January 2011 when the occupants will move to the third tower of the main hospital.

Rebuild
Sherwood Forest Hospitals is currently undertaking a £320 million Modernisation of Acute Services which has seen a large reconstruction of the existing site. The first major new building, the Diagnostic Treatment Centre, opened in April 2008. History
King's Mill was opened as a military hospital in 1942, as the 30th General Hospital of California - the first American wartime hospital in Britain. The hospital housed 400 injured American personnel as well as German prisoners of war. After the war the site was opened as King's Mill Hospital.On 14 January 1975, the Dukeries Centre was opened by the Duchess of Devonshire.
