Until 1998, the Kreisliga Süd was called A-Klasse Süd.
Parallel to the Kreisliga Süd, a Kreisliga Süd Reserven exists, in which all reserve teams of the clubs in the league play. These reserve sides can not achieve promotion or relegation. Should a Kreisliga club be relegated, its reserve team will enter the reserve league parallel to the one the first team plays in. Should a Kreisliga club however earn promotion to the Bezirksliga, its reserve side would then enter the league system at its lowest level, the A-Klasse. Only reserve sides of clubs above the Kreisliga can enter the Schwaben football league system
