The Landtag of Baden-Württemberg is the state diet
of the German federal state of Baden-Württemberg
. It convenes in Stuttgart
and currently consists of 139 members of four Parties. The current majority is a coalition of the Alliance '90/The Greens (Die Grünen)
and the Social Democratic Party (SPD)
, supporting the cabinet of Green Minister-President
Winfried Kretschmann.
Basically, elections are conducted using a proportional representation system, with a minimum of 5% vote share to receive any seats. However, there are some exceptions, making the Baden-Württemberg election system one of the most complicated in Germany .
On November 27, 2007, Oswald Metzger, elected in Biberach
, formally ended his membership in the Alliance '90/The Greens
, but stayed in the Landtag without a faction until, on February 18, 2008, Eugen Schlachter (member of Alliance '90/The Greens
) took his seat, thus bringing the Greens faction to 17 seats again.
