. It exists to represent Leeds Met students in University decision-making, to act as the voice of students in the national higher education policy debate, and to provide direct services to the student body.

Facilities

The union on the civic quarter has an independent advice centre and its own shop. As well as this it has its own bar The Met Bar and a live music venue called The Stage which has played host to numerous bands including Coldplay

The Met Bar

The Met Bar is the Student Union's flagship bar based in the Civic Quarter. It has a 400+ capacity bar and canteen which serves a variety of food. Regular events are held in the venue such as Met Madness on Tuesdays and Fank Thuck it's Friday! on Fridays.

The Union

Previously known as Beckett's bar The Union is the Students' Union bar based on the Headingley campus. The bar is open throughout the week and available for hire at weekends.

Kirkstall Brewery

Situated in the historic breweries development, Kirkstall Brewery is open from 4pm Monday to Friday, and from midday at weekends. The Brewery also serves food.

Student activities

The Students' Union has a range of activities to get involved with. There are numerous societies that any member of the Union can join and these range from religious groups to a simple chess club. The Students' Union also offers a wide variety of volunteering opportunities that students can take advantage of, which is organised through CALM (Community Action at Leeds Met).

The Students' Union also has an active LGBT

Athletic Union

The Athletic Union of the Leeds Met Students' Union is headed by James Perry, the Athletic Union President, Leeds Met regularly features well in the fixtures of university sports in the UK. They did lose the Varsity Rugby Union 2009 finale to Leeds University by 26-7, however the team put out by Leeds Met was the second team, due to the first teams commitment to a BUCS match.

The Executive

The Executive Committee of Leeds Met Students' Union carries out the decisions of the Board of Trustees, General Meetings and Union Council. The Committee is composed of the sabbaticals each covering a specific area of the running of the Union and of the Student Experience.

Affiliations

Leeds Met Students' Union founded links between the Al-Quds University and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem in the winter of 2008.
