History

The old manor houses of Alberga and Leppävaara are located in Leppävaara. Near there also is the manor house of Kilo.

After the shore track from Helsinki to Turku in 1903 was completed Leppävaara began to develop as a manor neighborhood. The bulk of the settlement was on the north side of the railway, the south side mostly in the agriculture use was further. Time the First World War Krepost Sveaborg

 was built on the area of Leppävaara the defensive positions of Helsinki which had joined and of which there are still rests in the terrain. Leppävaara was formed as a community in 1921 and it remained such until all the such ones at the beginning of the year 1956 were abolished. In the early 1960s as well as the separating also of Leppävaara, Tapiola from Espoo was designed as a town but the plans were rejected when Espoo at the beginning of the year 1963 was formed on the whole as a town.

In the "Suur-Helsinki" -plan of Eliel Saarinen considerably large scale building was proposed around the station of Leppävaara from the year 1918. The area to the south of particularly the railway stayed however, built in few people up to the 1990s. The planning of the area was slowed down especially by the disagreements between the municipalities because a wide part of the area was for a long time in the possession of the city of Helsinki even though it was located in the area of Espoo.

Form Maxi-Market of the first hypermarket of the Finnish, Rake Oy and of Osuusliike Elanto and of other businesses was opened to Leppävaara on November 4, 1971. The building designed by Toivo Korhonen was an architect office 130 metres of 80 metres, long, broad 15 800 square metres from its floor space and 95 000 cubic metres from its volume. The building was taken into pieces out of the way of the 2nd stage in 2003, new commercial centre, Sello, and Maxi had time to be a commercial centre at 1st stage of Sello until when Elanto had finished in the place of it, Prisma continued about a year HOK Elanto.
