to become a DA Investigator on Trial by Jury. When he died on December 28, 2004, Orbach had completed work on three of the six episodes so far produced. Two episodes starring Orbach opened the series and in the third episode broadcast it was announced that Lennie Briscoe had died. Scott Cohen joined the show in a recurring guest starring role as Detective Chris Ravell.

and concluded on May 6, 2005. The series was canceled mainly due to its competition with NUMB3RS
. Even though Trial by Jury managed to beat NUMB3RS in terms of total viewers with an average of 12.2 million to NUMB3RS 10.77 million, NUMB3RS still managed to beat it in both overall and key demographic ratings.
Twelve episodes of Law & Order: Trial by Jury aired before cancellation with the thirteenth episode being shown on CourtTV more than eight months after the series was last broadcast on NBC.
