. It was formed in 1994 from the merger of the two previously independent municipalities of Lüterswil and Gächliwil.
Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 3.0% and transportation infrastructure made up 2.3%. Out of the forested land, all of the forested land area is covered with heavy forests. Of the agricultural land, 44.9% is used for growing crops and 16.7% is pastures.
The municipality is located in the Bucheggberg district. It was created in 1995 through the merger of Gächliwil and Lüterswil.

Lüterswil is first mentioned in 1276 as zu Lüterswyl though this comes from a 17th Century copy of the original document. It was mentioned in 1369 as ze Luterswile. Gächliwil is first mentioned in 1365 as Gechlenwil.Geography
