Mark's Keyboard Repair
Encyclopedia
Mark's Keyboard Repair is an album by Money Mark
released on the Mo' Wax
label in 1995. The album is a series of low key keyboard-driven lounge and funk songs. Mark only sings on a few of the records. The music has a demo-ish quality which is matched by Mark's use of vintage keyboards and beatbox-like drum loops.
The full length version is actually a composite of the Performing Chicken EP
, with the additional tracks from the UK release (in 1995) of Mark's Keyboard Repair, and the tracks from the Third Version EP. Tracks 1-11 are from the 1994 EP, 12-20 from the 1995 release, and 21-30 from the 1996 release. UK versions do not include the songs from the Third Version EP. The album reached #35 on the UK albums chart
in September 1995.
"Cry" and "Insects Are All Around Us" was released as a single in May 1995 and reached #140 on the UK singles chart
. "Cry" was again released as a single in August of that year and reached a more respectable #86.
It was then also remixed by the Dust Brothers
and included as a b-side of the "Hand in My Head" single.
"Got My Hand in Your Head" was rerecorded as "Hand in Your Head" for Money Mark's second full length album - Push the Button. It was released as a single and reached #40 in the UK in February 1998.
"Sometimes You Gotta Make It Alone" was rerecorded in 1996 for the Third Version EP, the new version displayed a new confident direction. The vocals were cleaner and fuller in the mix. This pop approach was developed further on Push the Button.
^ "That's for Sure" and "Sixth Synth" are listed on the sleeve as separate tracks, but are combined as one single track on Cd versions.
