The 1996 telemovie
served as a pilot and it became the highest rated telemovie of all time in Australia. But after the success of it, Nine still though that a female-driven series would not appeal to audiences and they decided not to pick it up. Five years passed and Nine did eventually decide pick it up, and it proved to be a hit, as the first episode of season one attracted 1.89 million viewers. And it quickly became one of Australia's most popular drama series. The show is also very popular in several countries. The first season was released on a 5-VHS set in Australia. The DVD was released in Australia on 9 September 2003, consisting of all 22 episodes and it also includes the pilot tv movie, all in a 6-disc set.
