She was elected to her third term as Mayor on 6 December 2005. Suleyman has lived in St Albans all her life, where she attended a local public secondary school. Suleyman’s parents were Turkish Cypriot migrants who came to Australia from Cyprus
in the 1960s and worked hard to carve out a life for themselves in a new country.
Suleyman did not seek re-election at the 2008 local government elections.
