friends, several of whom were on the board of deacons, arranged private devotional services, led by Bergensköld.
Eventually the conflict led too a split in the church, and the formation of a mission society

Bergensköld left Galesburg for Iowa in April of 1869 and was succeeded by a reverend Carl Anderson. Some years later, in 1873, Bergensköld moved to the Swedish colony in Marshall County

 where he again helped set up a new mission society. Finally, he again moved back to Buena Vista County, Iowa where he took over as minister of a newly established congregation. A post he served between 1877 and 1881.
