Northern Premier League Chairman's Cup
Encyclopedia
The Northern Premier League Chairman's Cup is currently a one-off game played between the champions of the Northern Premier League Division One North
and Division One South
. Prior to the creation of these leagues in 2007, the cup was a "plate" competition for teams that lost in the Challenge Cup
. The winner of the Chairman's Cup now goes on to play the Premier Division
champions in the Peter Swales Shield
.
. The competition is now competed by the respective Division One North/South champions. Hyde United is the most successful team with 2 wins. Due to the new structure of the competition, it is now only possible to defend the title if the champions of Division One North/South are not promoted to the Premier Division – as happened with Retford United
in 2007–08 due to ground problems.
Since the split of Division One into two leagues in 2007–08; winning the Chairman's Cup secures qualification to play the Premier Division
champions in the Peter Swales Shield.
