Northern Premier League President's Cup
Encyclopedia
The Northern Premier League President's Cup is a knock-out cup competition organised by the Northern Premier League
.
Teams from both of the Northern Premier League Division One leagues take part in the tournament, with teams that played in the preliminary round of the Northern Premier League Challenge Cup
receiving a bye to the second round. For the 2011–12 season the NPL decided to not stage the competition due to it causing fixture congestion and clubs losing money to play the games. Instead, the President's Cup will be awarded to the team that tops the fair play league.
. The competition is now competed by Division One teams exclusively. No team has ever successfully defended the title, however, South Liverpool
, Fleetwood Town
, Witton Albion
, Runcorn and Belper Town
have come close, appearing in consecutive finals. Two Welsh teams have won the President's Cup: Rhyl
in the competition's 1984-85 season and Bangor City
in the 1988-89 season.
