Nyêmo is a county west of the main centre of Lhasa

It is a semi-arid plateau temperate monsoon climate zone, with four distinct seasons. Summer rainfall is concentrated and it has an annual rainfall of 324.2 millimeters and 2947.2 hours of sunshine with 100 days or so without snow. Natural disasters, mainly droughts, flash floods, landslides and hail are common.

Incense, paper, copper, electricity and food are also produced and a hydropower power plant with a capacity of 250 kilowatts, produces 257,000 kW·h annually. Pulu folk handicrafts and pottery are also produced.
In 2000, the county had 189 businesses with 3,319 production employees. The whole community achieved the total of 260184 million yuan in retail sales of consumer goods. The China-Nepal Highway (China National Highway 318
) passes through the Nyêmo County with highway links to Lhasa
