next to the euro highway E45, east of the river Göta Älv. Nödinge community was originally called Kyrkby (~Church village) and have been the site of a church since the medieval times. The current church was built 1727 and has excellent murals.
The downtown area is dominated by apartment complexes and is surrounded by an extensive countryside intermixed with villas. Downtown is Ale Torg, a shopping center with a diverse selection of stores, and Ale Gymnasium, the communities' only High School. There is also a junior high school, middle school, emergency room, library, a sports arena, there's even a nine hole golfcourse and a small boat harbor.
The surrounding countryside includes very steep hills with the nature area Vättlefjäll in the south east and the Göta Älv ridge to the east. Inside the town itself you can find a large number of steep hills intermixed with flat valleys that nowadays are fertile farmland, but which once was the bottom of the sea. The hills used to be islets of the old archipelago.

Nödinge in Ale was founded when a king called Inge, was in danger and he took his horse and fled from the enemies, his horse swimmed over Göta Älv with him and the enemies couldn't get to him, Inge was greateful and he said a church was going to be built at that location, and so Kyrkby was founded (kyrkby = church village) and when it started to form a town it changed name to nödinge (nödinge = need Inge, Inge was in need for help and therefor they changed the name to that), the church that stands there today was built in 1727 as mentioned before.
