from 1969 to 1980. He was a deputy attorney general in the Office of the Attorney General, California Department of Justice from 1980 to 1983. He was in private practice in Los Angeles, California
from 1983 to 2005.

announced that he would be appointing Wright to serve as a judge on the Los Angeles County Superior Court. Wright replaced Judge Lorna Parnell.
Wright was nominated to the United States District Court for the Central District of California

on January 9, 2007, to a seat vacated by Gary L. Taylor
