Collecting interests

Trish has been collecting and studying Confederate philately since she was in her teens. A number of her exhibits have won Grand Awards and Reserve Grand Awards in national competition. Because of her expert knowledge of CSA philately, she has qualified as a philatelic expert witness in legal court cases.

Philatelic literature

Trish is a prolific writer of articles on CSA philately, and has edited numerous journals related to the CSA, including The Confederate Philatelist, where she served as editor and co-editor for over seventeen years. She was also appointed editor-in-chief of the 2010 Confederate States Catalog and Handbook in 2006. Trish also served as section editor of The Confederate Stampless Cover Catalog and also a contributor to the 1986 New Dietz Confederate States Catalogue and annual updates of the Scott Specialized Catalogue. She has written numerous articles in The American Philatelist on the subject of Confederates and U.S. antique valentines and postal history, as well as other publications. She has served on the CSA Authentication Service since 1996 and was Recording Secretary of that group for 11 years.

Ms. Kaufmann also writes a monthly column for the American Stamp Dealer and Collector entitled "The Confederate Post".

Trish also works regularly with the Scott Catalogue editors to maintain the Confederate sections of Volume I and the Scott Specialized Catalogue, and she is also a researcher for the Smithsonian Institution

. And, because of her research on the 3-cent 1861 Postmaster Provisionals, published in the American Philatelist and The Confederate Philatelist, the 2000 Scott Specialized Catalogue was required to create an entirely new section, which precedes the Confederate States section.

Ms. Kaufmann has received numerous awards and recognition, including CSA Trophy (highest exhibiting award), August Dietz award for research and writing, the Haydn Myer Award twice for service to the Confederate Stamp Alliance, President's Trophy, Trustees Trophy, Robert A. Siegel Award, Special Trustees Award for sustained and superior service to the Confederate Stamp Alliance
