Pemberton's Headquarters

Pemberton's Headquarters, also known as Willis-Cowan House, is a two-story brick house that served as the headquarters for Confederate General John C. Pemberton
during most of the 47 day siege of Vicksburg, and the site where he decided to surrender the city to Ulysses S. Grant
on July 4, 1863.
During the 1960s the building housed a kindergarten associated with Vicksburg Catholic School (St. Francis Xavier Academy Kindergarten).
The house was declared a National Historic Landmark
in 1976.
The historic house museum is part of Vicksburg National Military Park
, and is located at 1018 or 1020 Crawford Street, Vicksburg, Mississippi
. The house is open for tours on Fridays and Saturdays during the summer.
