Many sources as IGN have give away some reliable info about the main character James Sterling. He is supposed to die in the game at the hands of The Spanish Admiral Maldonado, in the launch trailer James is seen being dragged by mystic and undead forces, they give them the chance to be the most dreaded pirate of the seven seas or be legendary. His curse makes him a supernatural pirate body like many others. Through the game the player must take many choices that will seal the fate of James. He displays many abilities due to his curse. He is seen able to control weather, change his form into a zombie-like appearance, also he is able to change the form of his ship, The Nemesis and most likely his crew as well (suspected), possibly giving them similar abilities such as the ones he possesses. The player must also recover the lost part of his ship as the main adventure.

The game would give players a character who has a predetermined appearance and personality, and based on their actions, the player will shape the character. Choices the player makes in the game would change the appearance and personality of the character. The game's main focus would be to allow players to choose how their character is seen in the world. This would allow some players to be more feared while some are just more respected. Exploration would take place in a mixture of land and sea.
