Portimão Global Ocean Race

The Portimão Global Ocean Race (PGOR) is a yachting race which was held in 2008/2009 for the first time.
The race was created for single- and doublehanded yachts (Category "Singlehand/Class 40" and “Doublehanded/Class 40") and small budgets. The two former professional yachtsmen Josh Hall and Brian Hancock were the initiators of the race. The six yachts (two solo, four crews) of the first edition of the race started on October 12, 2008 in Portimão
, Portugal. The finish was scheduled for June 21, 2009. The race is divided into five legs: The first one leads from Portimão to Cape Town
, the second one to Wellington
in New Zealand. Leg three ends in Ilhabela, Brazil. The race continues to Charleston, South Carolina
, USA and from there back to Portimão. In all, the race covers a distance of about 30.000 M. The only German participants of this first PGOR were Boris Herrmann
and Felix Oehme
from the Beluga Offshore Sailing Team on Beluga Racer.
