The municipality was part of the Moudon District until it was dissolved on 31 August 2006, and Prévonloup became part of the new district of Broye-Vully.

Prévonloup is first mentioned in 1336 as Provalour. In 1340 it was mentioned as Provonlou and in 1440 as Prévondloup.Geography

Of this area, 1.46 km² (0.563709151545101 sq mi) or 79.3% is used for agricultural purposes, while 0.22 km² (0.0849424748903577 sq mi) or 12.0% is forested.
