Arjun Rampal in an interview revealed that he had to spend about three-and-a-half hours in the gym every day for close to a year. He further stated that his preparation for the role included high-protein dieting and shaving off his long locks which his children loved to play with. He used to take 20 minutes to get into the red body suit, composed of three-inch solid rubber, while removing it took about 40 minutes, with regulated water and food intake in order to avoid visits to the toilet. "I lost three kilos working out and three more while filming. I gained a lot of muscle and reached 5 per cent body fat," Rampal said, adding "But it’s been worth the pain."

Design
Ra.One had two different looks in the film. A completely animated look which was faceless and one look with a bald, tattooed Arjun Rampal donning a supersuit. Additionally, Ra.One was also portrayed by Tom Wu initially, as Ra.One's character is shown to be tested and trained by Wu's other character Akashi.See also
