Rebel A. Cole

Rebel A. Cole is a professor of finance and real estate in the Kellstadt College of Commerce at DePaul University
in Chicago, Illinois, USA, where he has taught since July 2003. He teaches classes in corporate finance at both the graduate and undergraduate level.
Prior to coming to DePaul, Cole was an associate professor of finance at the University of New South Wales
in Sydney, Australia from July 2001 - June 2003 and at the University of Auckland
in Auckland, New Zealand from July 1999 - June 2001. He also served as Chief Economist of the Employment Policies Institute in Washington DC in 1998 and as a financial economist at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, DC from 1991 - 1997. He started his career at the Federal Home Loan Bank Board in 1987 and the moved to the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas in 1989 before moving to Washington in 1991. Since leaving Washington in 1999, Dr. Cole has served as a special advisor to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, participating in more than 30 technical-assistance missions to 15 countries around the world, including China, Kenya, Mongolia, Russia, Syria and Yemen.
Dr. Cole is a prolific author who, according to Google Scholar, has written more than 50 articles that have been cited more than 2,000 times and have appeared in such prestigious academic journals as The Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics and the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis. He is best known for his work on availability of credit and predicting bank failures. His research interests focus on corporate governance, commercial banking, entrepreneurship and real estate.
Dr. Cole was born in Asheville, NC on August 25, 1958 to Frank Cole and Kathleen Krahenbuhl Cole; attended St. Genevieve-Gibbons Hall for primary school, The Asheville School and Asheville High School for high school, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for college and graduate School. From UNC, he received an A.B. in Economics in 1981 and a Ph.D. in Finance in 1988. His half sister is the author Gail Godwin
. He is married to Caroline Lee and resides in downtown Chicago.
