Roar Ljøkelsøy is a Norwegian
ski jumper. Ljøkelsøy's early career was not particularly brilliant. While considered almost flawless technically, he did not win an individual World Cup event until 25 January 2003, at age 26. However, he was very consistent at a high level in both 2003/2004 and 2004/2005 seasons, always finishing second in the World Cup table behind Finland

. In 2003/2004, he won 7 out of the last 11 World Cup competitions, finishing 10 points short of Ahonen. In addition to winning 10 individual and 3 team World Cup competitions, he became the individual ski-flying world champion

His personal best ski jump is 230.5 metres (756.2 ft), achieved in Planica
in March 2005. This is the worlds seventh longest ski jump.
In April 2004 his long-time girlfriend gave birth to Sokrates.
He retired in FIS Ski-Flying World Championships 2010
