SS-Oberabschnitt Böhmen-Mähren was the Allgemeine-SS division command which encompassed the territory of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia
(now the Czech Republic
). Oberabschnitt Böhmen-Mähren was strictly a "paper command" and never exercised any active operational authority. The Oberabschnitt had been formed strictly as a General-SS counterpart to the much more powerful position of Higher SS and Police Leader
of Moravia and both positions were intended to be held by the same person.
The Böhmen-Mähren Oberabschnitt was activated in April of 1944 with the Oberabschnitt headquarters established in the city of Prague
. The Oberabschnitt's sole commander was Karl Hermann Frank
who was already holding several high positions in the Nazi government of Czechoslovakia
. In the last months of World War II
, from February to May 1945, Frank delegated command of the Oberabschnitt to his deputy SS-Oberführer
Emanuel Sladek. Oberabschnitt Böhmen-Mähren was formally disbanded when Nazi Germany surrendered on May 8, 1945.
