(grades 6-8) for gifted children. The school was started in 2006, and is located in Rockaway Park, New York. The school's address is 320 Beach 104th street, Rockaway Park.
After starting out as a pilot program, Scholars' Academy has evolved into a co-ed grade 6-12 middle/high school. Each grade into the middle school has six classes; organized into two cohorts. The individual cohorts each have a math, humanities (social studies and English), and science teacher. 6th graders are learning the same material as in other middle schools, however, in 7th grade the students take pre-algebra and a Regents class, Biology/ Living Environment. In 8th grade, students take the Algebra and Earth Science courses. In the high school there are four classes per grade.
To attend this school, there is an application process which you must pass. The process includes an application, filled out by the prospective student and their family and sent to Scholars' by their guidance counselor. After the application is sent to the school, with luck you will be granted an interview. The interview includes a written test with an essay to be written and math problems and an actual interview of the student. After being accepted into the school, students must maintain an 85% or higher cumulative average.
Scholars' Academy has many different sports teams and clubs. They include, boys basketball, girls basketball, co-ed soccer, girls softball (high school only), golf, co-ed swimming, co-ed tennis, girls volleyball and more. Its 2010-2011 HS Girls Volleyball Team won the PSAL Championships the second year they were in the competition. Some clubs at the school include the school newspaper, The Seaside Chronicle, and the largely unknown garden club. The newspaper is a recent addition to the school, having been started up in the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year.
Scholars have had many success since its opening in 2006.
