Jónsson rejoined IA Akranes in the summer of 1992 and spent another three seasons there, before joining Swedish

in 1995. Two years later he joined Scottish

, where again injury reduced his opportunities to play; he made 43 league appearances, scoring once against Motherwell. He left United and signed for IA Akranes for a third time, before finally retiring in 2001.
at international level 65 times, scoring three goals. He played his last game for the national team in September 1999 against Ukraine
