Each year Sunderland L.A. invites parents to express a preference for a particular school. Places up to the admission number will then be allocated according to the published criteria.
The Governors of St. Anthony's will allocate places according to each criterion on an equal preference basis.

Definition of, "Catholic"
Children who have been baptised as Catholics or who have been formally received into the Catholic Church. All applicants seeking admission under criteria 1-4 will be asked to provide evidence that the child has been baptised as a Catholic or has been received into the Catholic Church. A baptism certificate or a letter from their priest confirming their baptism or reception into the Catholic Church will suffice.

A child who is looked after by a Local Authority in accordance with Section 22 of the Children's Act 1989 (b) at the time application for admission to the school is made and who the local authority can confirm, will still be looked after at the time of admission to the school.

Sisters may be full sisters, half sisters, adopted sisters, step sisters, or the child of the parent/carer's partner where the child for whom the school place is sought is living in the same family unit at the same address as that sibling.

Tie breaker
Where there are places for some, but not all applicants within a particular criterion, distance from the home address to the school will be the deciding factor, with preference being given to those whose address is nearest to the school when measured by the shortest pedestrian route using the Local Authority's computerised measuring system with those living nearer the school receiving the higher priority.

. It moved to its present site in 1939. It comprises several stately homes including Westburn and Somerleyton which are of historic interest.
in 1946. It was known as St Anthony's Convent School. In 1976 it became a single sex voluntary-aided comprehensive school.
The school is often mistaken for a public or private school due to the workload, opportunity and ethic, especially the sixth form. It won a place in The Times
top 1000 schools list. The listed buildings in the school grounds in the school also add to this atmosphere. There are currently nearly 1400 students in the school, including 380 in the Sixth Form.
English Schools Football Champions 2010.
They performed at a mass for the relics of Saint Theresa when they visited the region, and have sang at the Sage as well as various other venues around the North East.
They have also completed three successful tours: Prague 2007, Dublin 2008 and Cracow in 2009.
They will embark on a fourth tour in October 2010 to Rome, where they will perform Vivaldi's 'Goria' in several different venues.
In 2009 30% of GCSE passes were at A*/A and 42% of A level passes at A/B.
Awarded the Basic Skills quality mark for literacy and numeracy provision.
Awarded High Performing Specialist School status by the SSAT.
Recognised as a Teaching and Learning Academy by the GTC (General Teaching Council).
Awarded Outstanding by OfSTED for the SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Training) programme run in conjunction with Northumbria University.
Northumbria Technology SCITT rated "Outstanding" by the TDA for the second time. Mr Jordan (Subject Leader Technology) is a core provider for the course i.e. trains all the Technology teachers on this course.

The Governing Body determines the admissions to St. Anthony's. The criteria for admission reflects the nature of the foundation of the School by the Sisters of Mercy, who are the trustees of St. Anthony’s, admitting Roman Catholic girls and where places are available girls of other faiths. (Each year the number of places available for girls of other faiths is small). The school choir was recently chosen to perform in the City Sings competition 2009. This is the first time they have reached the final.
