History

St. Joseph High School and Ascension Collegiate first opened in 1931 as the first high school for the Catholic boys in the Edmonton region. In the 1950s with the closing of St. Mary’s High School St. Joseph opened its doors to girls.
For a part of its history, St. Joseph's High School has offered self-paced or self-directed learning programs. These programs allow students to choose their own classes to a greater degree than most high school students, as well as manage their own time and work schedule, rather than attend regular class.
