Range
Pipistrellus studeei was known to have existed only on Hahajima Island in Bonin Islands, Japan. Some experts claim that this species never actually lived in Japan and its locality in Japan is just an error. As a result, the true distribution and origin of this animal is unknown.
Population
The previous population of this animal is unknown because only one specimen has been preserved, which is currently housed in the British Museum of Natural History. There have been no additional records of the Sturdee's Pipistrelle for over a century.
