. In 1867, he became a clerk in the general store of Joseph-Octave Arsenault
in Abram Village. He bought the business in 1898. Gallant was also a justice of the peace and a clerk in the court for Prince County
. In 1868, he married Eulalie Arsenault; after her death, he married Rosalie Borque in 1883. He was elected to the provincial assembly in an 1895 by-election held after Joseph-Octave Arsenault was named to the Senate.
