T. Wingate Andrews High School was opened in 1968 with Samuel E. Burford as its first principal. It took students from the former William Penn High School (now Penn-Griffin School for the Arts) and some from the High Point Central High School

Facilities

Because of the recent increase in population in the area, the school has added a three-story educational building completed in 2001, an auxiliary gym, and a new drama room, and has renovated the cafeteria and upgraded the HVAC

 system. The original main building at the school is still in use.

Academics

Andrews has the largest selection of Advanced Placement courses in Guilford County and has the highest success rate with the students that take the courses. The school also has Honors and College Prep courses, and Health Sciences. Andrews also offers an Early College Program.

s program. The T. Wingate Andrews Marching Band started with Mr. J. Y. Bell. Mr. Bell served as Band Director for many years. He was also the Band Director for William Penn High School. Andrews also has Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, and Orchestra.
