T. Wingate Andrews High School was opened in 1968 with Samuel E. Burford as its first principal. It took students from the former William Penn High School (now Penn-Griffin School for the Arts) and some from the High Point Central High School

The current principal is Rodney Wilds. Wilds replaced Monique Wallace, who was named Student Support Administrator for the Southeastern Region of Guilford County Schools in Greensboro
