Dr. Teresa Ann Sullivan (born July 9, 1949) is the current president of the University of Virginia
. She was unanimously elected on January 11, 2010, and became the University's first female president on August 1, 2010. Previous to her time at the University of Virginia, she was the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Michigan
, and has held administrative positions at the University of Texas. In addition, Sullivan has authored or coauthored six books and over 80 scholarly articles in sociology.
Sullivan received her undergraduate degree from Michigan State University

, where she was asked to stay on as an intern in the office of the president by then-university president Clifton R. Wharton, Jr.
. She completed her Ph.D. at the University of Chicago
and joined the faculty of the University of Texas as an instructor in sociology
