University of Strathclyde Students' Association

Founded in 1964, the University of Strathclyde Students' Association is the representative body for students of the University of Strathclyde
. It is run by the students through an Executive Committee and the Students' Representative Council. It was formed when the Students' Associations of the Royal College of Science and Technology and of the Scottish College of Commerce amalgamated.. In 1989 it merged with the Strathclyde University Sports Union

The current Student's Union building was built in 1959, and adjoins onto the rear of the Royal College and James Weir buildings. Its address is 90 John Street.

The main policy making body is the Students' Representative Council who meet 7 times a year to discuss any policy and to hold the Executive to account. Membership includes 21 Junior Office Bearers, including Convenors of liberation and volunteer groups, and 80 Faculty Representatives. Faculty Representatives are split between 5 Faculties and places are allocated based on members of each Faculty, and should be directly elected but due to low interest in the positions an election has not happened in recent times.
The Association General Meeting (AGM) is the highest policy making body in the Association, any student of the University can turn up, vote and submit motions.
It was opened by the Students' Association of the Technical College in 1959 and has been run by the University of Strathclyde Students' Association since its formation in 1964.
The Association also has a presence at the Jordanhill campus, running Toby's, a cafe and bar. There is also an office behind the bar for the Student Officers to ensure Jordanhill students are represented.

Governance
The day to day running of the building is done by the Executive Committee of 13 which also serves as the trustee board. 12 of the members are elected by a cross-campus ballot annually, one member is the Immediate Past President.There are 6 Sabbatical Officers:

Building
The Association building, commonly referred to as the Union, is one of the largest student unions in the UK with 10 stories. It contains 4 licensed bars, a restaurant, shop, bank, gig venue and the offices of the student officers.It was opened by the Students' Association of the Technical College in 1959 and has been run by the University of Strathclyde Students' Association since its formation in 1964.
