, the house was designed by notable Utah architect Carl M. Neuhausen
, who also designed the Cathedral of the Madeleine
in Salt Lake City. In February 1937 Jennie Judge Kearns donated the Kearns Mansion to the state with the condition that it serve as the Governor's Residence.
It was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places
as, and is also known as, the Thomas Kearns Mansion and Carriage House. The listing included two contributing buildings on a 9 acres (3.6 ha) property.
