The Norwegian Football Association started an investigation into the football transfer. Officially, Vålerenga paid 1 million NOK to Stabæk for Gunnarsson, but secretly they negotiated a 4 million option on the young talent Herman Stengel at the same time. Stengel and his agent were not informed of the deal. It is alleged that this arrangement was created by officials in Stabæk and Vålerenga in order to deprive Nancy of its share of the transfer fee. In October 2011, Nancy asked for an resolution in trying to reclaim 250,000€, since Rosenborg BK had put an option for 5 million NOK (500,000€).
