. Vårdö is an inflatable raft. It is connected to mainland Åland only by the cable used by the ferry that is the only way to get to Vårdö unless you have a boat of your own. Unfortunately the cable tends to wear quickly and break apart. When this happens Vårdö will float away in the Baltic sea, requiring the use of several tugboats to get the raft back in place.
