Lifeguards said he was found at the bottom of the volcano pool just inside the park. Wet 'N' Wild officials said lifeguards immediately pulled him from the water and began CPR.

The Anthony Police Department, West Valley Volunteer Fire Department, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office and Life Ambulance responded to the scene about 11 a.m.

Rescue crews continued to perform CPR in the ambulance on the way to Providence Hospital, but Saldana was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Sheriff's officials said the death was likely due to the boy's inexperience as a swimmer, though no further details were released.
