William Mair Cushing (October 25, 1853 - January 5, 1925) served as the first mayor of the Village of Elkhorn
after its incorporation January 2, 1906. This first mayoral election was extremely close and Cushing defeated his opponent, W.J. Thompson, by a single vote.
