The Municipality of Yaxcabá is one of the 106 subdivisions
of the State of Yucatán
in Mexico
. Its municipal seat is located in the City of Yaxcabá.
Yaxcabá means place of green earth.
Its borders are on the north the municipality of Sudzal, on the south Chacsinkín, on the east Chankom and to the west Sotuta.
In colonial times under the encomienda system it was administered by Joachim of Leguizano (1562) and Andres Valdes.

Location
This municipality is located 90 kilometers southeast of the city of Merida and in the central region of the state. It is between latitude 20° 19' and 20° 49' north and the longitude 80° 36' and 88° 56' west.Its borders are on the north the municipality of Sudzal, on the south Chacsinkín, on the east Chankom and to the west Sotuta.

History
It is believed that the settlement was established by the survivors of the fall of Mayapan in 1441.In colonial times under the encomienda system it was administered by Joachim of Leguizano (1562) and Andres Valdes.
Architectural
In the municipality seat Yaxcabá, there is St. Francis of Assisi church, the chapel dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe, all dating from the colonial era. There is also the Santa Cruz church, former convent and parish of St. Peter and St. Nicholas Chapel.Archaeological
