History

Traditionally the line now known as the Ådalen Line consisting of three sections. The connection from Sollefteå and Långsele was built by the Swedish State Railways

Renovation

The Swedish Transport Administration is upgrading 130 kilometres (80.8 mi) of the line, from Sundsvall to the connection with the new high-speed Bothnia Line north of Nyland. The upgrades both include renewal of existing track, and two new section of track. The upgraded line will have a maximum permitted axle load of 25 tonnes (24.6 LT), allow 1400 tonnes (1,377.9 LT) trains and have the new European Rail Traffic Management System
