History
The original village of Örgryte is much older than the city of Gothenburg, which subsequently absorbed it. Construction in the area predates the surrounding areas. The name Örgryte probably originates from the "gryts" in one of the ends of the area. These are large "holes" in the ground made when the ice melted away and large rocks started tearing on the mountain making big "holes" in the ground.Geography
