approach in thick fog at Barquisimeto Airport, Venezuela. The DC-9 landed hard 1015 metres beyond the runway threshold, the landing gear collapsed and the aircraft slid off the runway and exploded. The aircraft was carrying 45 passengers and five crew, one crew member died along with 22 of the passengers, ten passengers were seriously injured.
