The 1993 FA Charity Shield was the 71st FA Charity Shield
, an annual football match played between the winners of the previous season's Premier League and FA Cup
competitions. The match was played on 7 August 1993 at Wembley Stadium and contested by Manchester United
, who had won the 1992–93 Premier League, and Arsenal
, who had won the 1992–93 FA Cup. Manchester United won 5–4 on penalties after the match had finished at 1–1 after 90 minutes.
It was the first Charity Shield which saw players wearing squad numbers, which were being introduced into the Premier League for the 1993-94 season
and had debuted in English club football in the previous season's FA Cup final.
Making their club debuts in the game were Roy Keane
for United and Eddie McGoldrick
for Arsenal. Keane would remain with United for more than 12 years, collect a mass of major honours, and later captain the side. McGoldrick, on the other hand, would struggle to hold down a first team place for Arsenal during most of his three-year spell there, although he did collect a winners' medal in the European Cup Winners' Cup

The shield was presented to United captain Steve Bruce
by former Wolverhampton Wanderers
and England captain Billy Wright
, aged 69. Wright died barely a year later.
