group stage, saw Ivorian

score the only goal of the game in the 43rd minute to give l'OM their first European Cup title. It was the first time that a French team had won the European Cup, and no French side has won the trophy since.
The club and their president Bernard Tapie
would later be involved in a match-fixing scandal, which saw them relegated to Division 2
and banned from participation in European football for the following season.
