Encyclopedia
The 2006 Six Days of the Greenery
of marathon speed skating
was held in the Netherlands
, between December 11 and December 16, 2006. The tournament hosted six races of 100 laps in six days in the chase for the brussels sprout suit.
In the men's competition French
skater and defending champion Cédric Michaud
won the first two races and was leading the standings after four races. In the fifth race he fell due to a move by Douwe de Vries, which resulted in finishing without points in that race. Andrès Landman
, winner of the fifth race took the lead and wore the brussels sprout suit in the last race. Jan Maarten Heideman
however, was chasing him only 2,1 points behind and is known to be a fast sprinter. Michaud decided his tournament was over and skated the last race passively. In the final sprint of the race Jan Maarten Heideman outsprinted Andrès Landman who finished in first and second position, with Heideman taking the race, the lead and the brussels sprout suit. For Heideman it was the second time he won the overall rankings.
Daniëlle Bekkering
dominated the women's competition by winning four out of five races and easily took the win in the overall rankings. The only other race winner and defending champion Elma de Vries
ended up in third position, with the more constant factor Maria Sterk
finishing on the second place. It was Bekkering's third overall rankings career win.
