and the US Open
, and the first round of the French Open
. She has beaten top-20 players, Roberta Vinci
, Ana Ivanović
, and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova
.
In the first semifinal Ana Ivanovic won 7 of the first eight games to lead Petrova by a set and a break. However Petrova responded and held set point but it was Ivanovic who won in straight sets. In the second semi Medina Garrigues took the opening set with just six unforced errors, while her opponent Lisicki hit twenty one. The second set had the same pattern but Liscki managed to convert her opportunities to win the set. During the second set Liscki had a medical time out for a mid back injury. But after losing eighteen of the first twenty two points in the third set the German decided to retire.
In the final Ivanovic retained her title in just over an hour. The Serb broke early in the first set and easily won the second set, breaking three times, hitting twenty winners to Medina Garrigues' four. The 6–3 6–0 win was the perfect way for Ivanovic to celebrate her birthday. Earlier in the day Nadia Petrova claimed third place when Sabine Lisicki withdrew from their match before it began. Instead Petrova played an exhibition match with Daniela Hantuchová. Petrova won in three sets, taking the final set 6–0.
