The 2012 Copa Sudamericana
de Clubes (officially the 2012 Copa Bridgestone
Sudamericana de Clubes for sponsorship reasons) will be the 11th edition of CONMEBOL
's secondary international club tournament. The winner will qualify for the 2013 Copa Libertadores
, the 2013 Recopa Sudamericana, and the 2013 Suruga Bank Championship.
The tournament will be expanded from 39 teams to 47 teams, allowing the eight associations other than Argentina and Brazil to each enter four teams instead of three teams.

Qualified teams
The following associations have adopted new qualification methods for this tournament:- Argentina: The aggregate table of the 2011 Clausura and the 2011 Apertura results will be used to determine the Copa Sudamericana qualifiers (same as the table used to determine the 2012 Copa Libertadores qualifiers). If a team already qualifies for the 2012 Copa Libertadores2012 Copa LibertadoresThe 2012 Copa Libertadores de América will be the 53rd edition of the Copa Libertadores, CONMEBOL's premier international club tournament. The winner will play in the 2013 Recopa Sudamericana and the best-placed non-Mexican team will play in the 2012 FIFA Club World Cup...
, they will not play in the 2012 Copa Sudamericana. However, any team eliminated from the First Stage of the 2012 Copa Libertadores will automatically qualify for the 2012 Copa Sudamericana (Argentina 1 or Argentina 2 berth). The 2011–12 Copa Argentina champion will also automatically qualify for the 2012 Copa Sudamericana (Argentina 6 berth) if they have not already qualified. - Bolivia: The league will change their calendar to European calendar (like Argentina, Uruguay and Venezuela) starting from 2011–12.
